Summer Youth Mission Trip
It’s all set- We are headed to Bayou La Batre, Alabama July 16-24, 2010. Bayou La Batre is located on the central Gulf Coast, about 15 miles from Mobile. The main industry of the community revolves around seafood with shrimping as the major source of income. This small community is extremely multi-cultural with people from all backgrounds and economic classes. This diverse community struggled with deep poverty before Hurricane Katrina completely destroyed 150 homes and damaged more than 800. We will be serving the community by working with the kids at Kids Club, doing minor home repairs, painting and working with various community organizations. Registration forms can be found on the youth bulletin board. The cost of the trip is $675 per person. Don’t let the cost of the trip stop you from participating. We will be holding fundraisers throughout the year to help off-set the cost. This trip will change your life and is well worth the cost!
Mission Trip Update:
All the spots for the mission trip to Bayou La Batre, Alabama are currently filled and we have started a waiting list. We are waiting to see if the other two churches (from Texas and Nebraska) will decrease their numbers through Youth Works, and if they do, we can offer spots to those on the waiting list.
March is a busy month for fundraising!
All Butter Braid order forms must be turned into the church office by Wednesday March 3rd to be included in the order. Butter Braids will be delivered to church on Wednesday March 17th. Everyone who does individual sales must come after school or make arrangements to pick their orders up that day because we do not have the capacity to store them. Sorting will begin at 4:00pm on March 17th- we need as many hands as possible to help with the sorting. We will need people to help distribute Butter Braids on the following Sunday & Wednesday.
Your next installment is due into the church office by Wednesday March 24th- you need to have $400 in your account by then. You will be receiving an update of your account at the beginning of March.
We also will be hosting the annual Palm Sunday Breakfast on Sunday March 28th between services. We will be setting up and making preparations on Saturday March 27th from 10:00-11:00am. Everyone needs to report to Sara True in the Kitchen on Sunday March 28th at 8:30am to receive their work assignments for the breakfast. This is an event that we need parent participation in order for the breakfast to go smoothly. We should be done with the breakfast cleanup by noon. If you have any questions, talk to Pastor Ivy.

Posters are needed for the Quilt Auction and The Marketplace at the Synod Assembly in April. Posters will be displayed alongside quilts and marketplace goods to encourage people to donate generously to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal through their bid. Each poster will have its own "tip jar" for people to vote for their favorite poster. The poster receiving the most "votes" by the end of the Assembly will receive a popcorn-and-movie party for his or her church youth group!
Contest rules:
Posters must be on an 8-1/2" x 11" sheet of paper
Include your name and your congregation's name and location on the back of the poster - you may submit more than one poster
You may use original drawing or painting, cut-and-paste collage, computer-generated graphic art, or any other artistic medium
You must use the information provided in the ELCA Good Gifts Catalog to describe the value of monetary donations to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal and to the people it serves. Use only the items in the following sections of the catalog: God's Global Barnyard, Nourish, Nurture, and Heal. (i.e. a donation of $125 buys a sheep for a family or a donation of $150 buys five mosquito nets, a goat, and two sets of gardening tools). Find the Good Gifts catalog online at: www.elca.org/goodgifts or contact your congregation's hunger contact
Posters should encourage people to donate generously and lift up the value of these donations to the people all over the world who are served by ELCA World Hunger donations
Send your poster(s) to the Synod Assembly with your voting members and pastor. Posters must be turned into the church office by 4:30pm on Thursday April 22.
