BRING THE WHOLE FAMILY!
First Communion Workshop
In past years we have held our First Communion Workshop during the third weekend in January. This year we are going to try something new by moving it to April. The 5th graders and parents are encouraged to participate in the First Communion workshop on Saturday, April 10th in the morning. The First Communion service will be on Sunday April 18th.
Summer Bible Camp is just around the corner!
Luther Crest Bible Camp on beautiful Lake Carlos in Alexandria will be providing a wide range of fun activities for kids of all ages this summer. Their theme, “Filled with Joy” will lead us into exploring all the great things that God has done! Bethlehem youth are encouraged to attend camp the week of July 25-30, 2010 in either the Faith Leapers Camp (grades 4-6) or Witnesses (grades 7-9). We are encouraging youth who are in 5th grade to consider going to camp as a fun and foundational step of faith before they start Catechism next fall. Luther Crest brochures with the registration form can be found in the kiosk in the Narthex. Financial assistance is available. Talk to Pastor Ivy if you have any questions.
Way to Go Children of Bethlehem!
On Rally Sunday, Pastor Ivy revealed to the congregation that the children of the church had collected $424.90 in the water jar from the Children’s sermons over the past year. Their generous gifts of nickels, quarters and dimes will be sent to the ELCA World Hunger Appeal which will use the money to provide clean drinking water for children around the world, in places like Peru and El Salvador where 90% of the drinking water is contaminated.
Did you know that:
Over 1.1 billion people in the world have no access to safe drinking water and 2.5 billion people lack proper sanitation which factors out to be 1 in every 6 people without safe water to consume.
Approximately 80 percent of disease and over one-third of deaths in the developing world are caused by contaminated water.
Over 4 million children and 1 million adults die each year from water-borne diseases.
Thank you, children of Bethlehem, for teaching us how to be generous with our gifts!
